What is the difference between tier First AC, 2 AC and tier 3 AC in a train ?

Indian Railways provides three types of  sleeper AC coaches in their trains.

1. First AC
2. Two tire AC
3. Three tire AC.

Here is image of First AC.

First AC provides a separate cabin with door facility.

You can close and lock the door to separate your self and family from other passengers.

The inner side looks like this

Measurements of Berths –

First AC Coach – Lower berth = length 185cms, width 67cms

Upper berth = length 182cms, width 64cms

Distance between Lower and Upper berth = 83cms,

A cabin comprise of four berths. If you are travelling four then it may be ideal for you enjoy your journey  very peace fully.

Berths are wide and cabin is spacious.

Next come Two tire AC.

Here is images of AC two tire class of Indian Railways.

The cabin facility is not available in this class of coaches.

But railway provides curtains in these coaches.

Same as AC first class four berths are provides at one side. If you travelling with family of four then after separate your family through curtain you fell some separations from other passengers.

Two side upper and side lower berths are provides in these type of coach.

Measurements of Berths –

Two tier AC Coach – Lower berth = length 185cms, width 67cms

Upper berth = length 182cms, width 64cms

Distance between Lower and Upper berth = 83cms,

Side lower berth (SL) - length 166.5, width 55, the side lower berth is about 57cms above the floor and there is a further 90cms to the underside of the upper berth.

Side upper berth (SU) - length 166.5, width 57.5, the roof of the train is curved, the clearance from the side upper berth to the roof is 87cms, this reduces to 58cms towards the side of the train.

Next come three tire AC

Here is a image of AC three tire berth

Dimensions are

Inside lower berth (LB) - length 189.5, width 56, the lower berth is about 45cms above the floor and there is a further 58cms to the underside of the middle berth.

As per dimensions you can clearly understand that the width of AC two tire berths are more than AC three tire berths.

So if you travelling with your children you can easily adjust yourself in lower berth of AC two tire at night.

There will be no any tension of fallen of your children from berth.

And you will get a peaceful sleep through the night.

It is practical.

There is no inside middle berth in AC two tire coaches.

Ac three tire ICF coach has 64 berths , LHB coach has 72 berths

AC two tire ICF coach has 46 berths , LHB coach has 54 berths.

The most comfortable thing i have found in AC two tire that though you have upper berth you can easily sit on your berth.

You don’t need to put a request towards the lower berth holder for sitting.

It is very very comfortable and gave you peace of mind throughout your journey.
